Practice Makes Perfect
Well it has been a crazy week so far. Last night I met up with Melissa at my mom's house and we took the girls around the neighborhood. We are preparing for the March of Dimes WalkAmerica that is coming up at the end of April. It is a four mile walk and I am in NO shape to walk four miles. So yesterday, being the beautiful day that it was, I packed the girls up and met Melissa with the stroller. We went one mile and it was killer. I don't think we even made it one block before I started whining about the stroller being too heavy. Then we rounded another corner and it was all uphill. Half way up the hill, which was no more of an incline than a driveway, I started saying I needed mountain climbing gear. You know the kind with the pully and ropes. It was tough. I hope I'll be ready by the time the walk gets here. It's not looking to good at this point!
Melissa and I followed our workout with a trip to Target. I never can resist looking in the baby department and I have a hard time not buying something for the girls, especially cute clothes. Now that the babies are in regular sizes I can buy anything. When they were in preemie and newborn there was such a limited selection. But now there is so much more to choose from and sometimes I just can't resist. I was proud of myself though because I did resist and I only wound up buying them more bottles. After that I got right back on track with my original shopping list.
After Target, we headed to Chili's to eat dinner and replace all those calories we burned up on the slopes :) The food wasn't that great last night for me or Melissa but it didn't really matter because we had such a good time. Maddy and Morgan were in really good moods and they were so cute. They were in footy pj's when we got there and they were sweaty so I ended up stripping them down right there at the dinner table, putting them in onesies. It didn't matter, it wasn't very crowded. Then we played with toys and Maddy flirted tirelessly with the young guy at the table behind us. It was really cute. I told Melissa that this was a sign that William and I are going to have our hands full when she gets older.

The Better to See You With, My Dear!
Today I took Maddy and Morgan to the eye doctor. It went well other than it took FOREVER. Both girls have good vision. They both are somewhat farsighted, Maddy more so than Morgan, but the doctor said that isn't unusual for any baby much less babies born so early. She said they don't need glasses now and to bring them back in a year. They will probably outgrow their farsightedness. I am hoping so. I am just relieved that they don't need glasses now. It would be awful trying to keep them on at this point. Of funny note: the doctor said that Maddy is going to be light haired because she doesn't have very much pigment to her eyes and that is a sign of blonde or red haired people. I thought that was funny.

Happy Anniversary
I keep singing the "Happy Anniversary" song in my head. Today is mine and William's 2nd anniversary. YEAH! This weekend has been crazy. Friday William went to work at 6:30 a.m. He got off at 4:30pm and we rushed across town to Alissa and Kalei's wedding rehersal where I was the maid (Maitron sounds SO OLD) of honor. Then dinner followed at Spaghetti Wharehouse, which was delicious and we got home around 10:30pm. Then Saturday I was up again super early packing up the rugrats to go to Uncle Drew's for the day. I ran around like a crazy girl and headed off to the wedding. Fast forward several hours. Wedding ends and Melissa was keeping the girls overnight at her place so William and I could celebrate our anniversary. Our plan was to go home and change from the wedding and then head to Tunica to the casino for a nice dinner and some fun. We decided after getting home to lay down for about thirty minutes and then head out. Hit the pillow and I was a goner. It is SO TRUE what they say about how new parents would rather sleep than go on a date. We slept till midnight. We got up and ate and William said "let's go ahead and go to the casino now". Sounded good to me since the casino's are open 24 hours and we had slept for like five and half hours. So we finished eating and somehow fell asleep again before making it to the door, again. It was so crazy. We slept all night and woke up at 6:30am. Then we really did go to the casino. We ate breakfast, played the nickel slots and penny slots and then left. We went to Target and to a movie to see "Failure to Launch". The movie was really good, very funny. Then we went grocery shopping and came home. I would say overall that the weekend was really full and really fun. I am so happy to have found the love of my life in William. He is such a sweetie and we are still as happy with one another, if not happier, today as we were two years ago today. Thanks for all of you who love us and support us everyday!

More Peas Please
Who knew? Morgan loves peas! All this time I have been avoiding giving the babies green beans and peas. My original intention was to give them more veggies than fruits in hopes to create in them a true love for vegetables, but when push came to shove, I just wanted to spoil them with sweets. I gave them bananas and pears and peaches (their favorite) and on the rare occasion that the guilt got to me I would give them sweet potatoes and carrots and squash - all orange. I was truly avoiding the green. So tonight I thought, enough is enough, time to break out the REAL veggies. So I bravely heated up the green peas, the only jar I had in the cupboard. I put a big bib on Morgan and prepared myself for the worst. The first couple of bites made me glad I was wearing green and standing next to a sink. She took them in and spit them at me. I laughed because I couldn't help but laugh - it was so cute. Then I tried again. This time she gobbled them down and opened her mouth for more. My baby (babies) are so SMART! It must be all the brain food I feed them :). Since my sweet girl is now an official fan of the green stuff I guess I have to run to the grocery and get some more peas to please.

A Sore Subject
Why does teething have to be so painful? Painful for her and painful for me. Morgan is teething and she is the most irritable baby I have ever seen. She is practically inconsolable at times. This morning as soon as William went out the door she started screaming. Not just crying but screaming. Her face and ears turned red. She refused her bottle. She didn't want to be held or put down. She was just flailing around and wailing. I gave her some tylenol and put baby orajel on her gums (which she seems to hate). Usually this regime works but today nothing seems to be working. I finally rocked her to sleep and then put her in the middle of my bed. She slept for twenty minutes and then woke up. I went in and got her up and she was laughing and smiling. I gave her her bottle and as soon as the nipple touched her gums, she went balistic again. Wailing and thrashing. This time I just put her on a pallet on the floor and let her cry for a while. She finally calmed down enough to eat. That was a huge relief. I thought I was going to take her to the E.R. I have never had her cry like that before. I imagined myself taking her to the emergency room and the nurses just laughing at me for bringing my baby in for teething. I can't believe I have to go through this for every new tooth times two. I worry that if teething makes Morgan this irritable and angry how much worse will it be when mad Maddy hits this "magical milestone".

A Worthy Cause
Today Melissa and I took the babies to the March of Dimes Family Kickoff. I have become fairly involved in the March of Dimes since the girls came home from the hospital. I am so greatful to them because without them I know my sweet girls wouldn't be here. It was nice to be around other parents who have been through some of the same trials you have been through. It is nice to know that you aren't alone. We were one of the newest families there and it was comforting to see other preemies who are now older and bigger and meeting the milestones of their peers. The girls had in-home therapy this week three times and while the therapists were here I felt so overwhelmed. I thought "Will they ever catch up to other kids?" and "How are we going to get through all of this?" and "Will they be normal one day? Will it get easier in time?" Seeing all the other kids today helped put me more at ease. We are so blessed. The girls had a rough start but overall it could have ended up so much worse. March of Dimes is a wonderful cause and I think any mother, whether her babies were preemies or not, can appreciate all the hard work they do. Something New!
Starting a blog today. Mostly so I can post cute pictures of the girls and let everyone know how we are doing.
Today is St. Patricks Day. I have no idea what this holiday is about . . . but a holiday is an easy excuse for dressing the babies up. For Halloween they were pink princess ballerinas. For Thankgiving I dressed them up to go over to my mom's house. For Christmas, we went all out, putting them in red dresses and white tights with obnoxious white bows on their head. I probably skipped New Year's Eve, but I am making up for it today. I bought them the cutest white and green onesies at Old Navy. They have shamrocks on them and say "Little Good Luck Charm". I took about 40 pictures and will end up printing all of them I am sure.
Speaking of printing pictures. I should take out stock in Walgreens Photo. I have become such a regular at my local Walgreens that the lady at the Photo counter makes comments about how big the girls are getting. They know me by name - which is a little embarassing, considering that one night I chewed out the lady for not having my pictures ready (she deserved it - she was being very rude). I guess it makes sense that they know my name. Duh - its on the package!
Today the girls have speech therapy and Charla is coming out from TIPS to work with us. We really like Charla. She is very laid back and fits in with our family well. She almost feels like family and we have only been with her for a couple of months. She comes out weekly and plays with the girls. Today is the first time the speech therapist has come out. It is just an evaluation to see if Morgan needs help with her swallowing techniques. There is so much to do with preemies.
Well Morgan is waking up from her nap and letting me know it :) Catch you later!
